I'd go along with John. I've driven my current '87 Syncro Westy with Agelis 61's (pretty sure they were 185's) on it and the ride was stable but very harsh. I'd think that would intensify on the lighter Van. I am using Michelin XC LT4's, which many here do not recommend, but which work very well for me. I'm using 225/70R14's and inflate the fronts to 45 and rears to 50. Very stable at speed and good lateral resistance in crosswinds and around trucks. Much quiter and less harsh ride along with the above benefits. They are also wearing very well. I'd estimate I'm going to get at least 40K out of them. Bob Stevens '87 Syncro Westy

Have you considered the Michelin 205/75R14? It has an 8 ply side wall and a "D" load rating.

Can be found in Michelins Commercial Tire line and is readily available. I'm getting a set for my 88 GL at the end of the month.
