Subject: Which Mystic JT-?? in front Differential?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
SyncroBeasts got new used Front Axels back on so I can drive her again.
Just in time, the tires on the 944 I picked up for next to nothing are so
old and dry rotted they stopped holding air! 3 strikes for the 944 and
she's out till I can get the time to rebuild the engine. Bummer, it was a
nice ride.
So I was going to put in the New VC that Derek Drew got for me, but I
realized before I started that: 1. I didn't have any Mystic JT-?? to put
in the front differential, 2. The local FLAPS didn't carry Mystic, and
didn't have a clue what to put in anyway, and 3. There are 4 or 5
different kinds of Silicone Sealant to coat the Output Housing joint with,
and again, the local FLAPS didn't have a clue which of the 4 to use, they
just kept saying that Silicone Sealant in a tranny was trouble.
So:
1. Which Mystic should I put in when I open up the differential to replace
the Viscous Coupling?
and
2. Rainer's instructions says to coat the Output Housing joint with
Silicone Sealant, but I'm not sure which of the 4 or 5 colors I should use,
although I suspect that whichever color it is, I should use the super or
high grade version.
My thanks to Derek Drew for arranging to obtain new VC's for our Syncro's &
My thanks to Dr. Rainer Woitok and Sam Walters for sending a step by step
explaination of how to do the task of replacing the Viscous Coupling.
I still haven't made up my mind if I should try it in the vehicle or on the
bench. Now that I've got the CV joint problem fixed, I suspect that I'll
wait till Spring to tackle the VC. It'll be warmer then. (Not that it
ever gets that cold here in the Gawd Forsaken State of New Jersey.....)

On another related VW subject, I caught a part of the Paris Dakar rally
coverage on Speed today. Saw the VW Taureg running, looks ugly as sin, but
I suppose I still want one. Imagine turning up at a Road Rally or local
Autocross with something like that!!
I did hear one of the drivers mention that it was ??REAR WHEEL DRIVE??
only? Can that be right?
