Chris,
DON'T DO IT! I have a G60 Corrado, and I love it to death, but I think that
it is a very poor choice for a Vanagon. There are a lot or reasons for this.
I cover just a few here.
Superchargers are super expensive. They go bad. They have to be rebuilt.
They are very expensive.
The power isn't where you want it. The power and torque characteristics of
the G60 motor are very poor matches for a Vanagon.
I have actually seen one G60 conversion. The engine was clocked pretty far
counterclockwise (rotated to the left so that it would clear the deck). This
is a VERY bad idea with the G60. Look at a G60 supercharger closely. You
will see that there is a braided stainless steel line that supplies oil to
the supercharger. If you rotate the engine, that oil line is no longer high
enough to supply oil to the supercharger bearings - very, very bad
(expensive too). There is also a drain line so that oil can be drained out
of the supercharger. As with the supply line, if you rotate the
supercharger, the drain line won't be able to do its job. Oil will
accumulate in the bottom of the supercharger. No good will come of this.
I love the G60 motor. Don't put one in your Vanagon. Some things just aren't
right.
Bruce
