I got a free transaxle recently to help my 86 with sick AT. So I'm poling around at the heavy lump of metal it is. I find that the input shaft, where the torque converter goes has a big splined outside, then a smaller splined shaft inside, then a bore down the middle for the oil pump shaft. The big outside one will not turn, the inside one will turn. Is the outside one suppose to turn? I found it pretty easy to separate the trans from the final drive. Is it possible to leave the final drive in the van and just remove the tranny? I understand there are some seals between the tow which are important to replace. Can this be done without removing the final drive? I am thinking about rebuilding the free donor trans I got and slipping it onto my final drive if that is possible. Edward |
