Dear List engine guru's, Earlier this month there was a post to the list showing a web site for a company in Livermore CA that does Audi 5 cylinder engine conversions for the vanagon. Has anyone on the list had any experience with this outfit? I would really like to do an engine conversion on my 84 westy and fancy the audi 5 or a late model (1.9) diesel. Since my transmission is an automatic I doubt that the diesel is a realistic option without transmission modifications to lower rpm's which I don't believe are possible. Had a Audi with the 5 cylinder engine once and it was a very nice engine. RPM's match the automatic as well. I've heard too many bad vibes (literally) on the list about the Tiico conversion to consider that as an option so it's either stay stock (and I don't want to do that) or go with one of the two options above. A normally aspirated Audi 5 looks really good on paper........course there seems to be very few of those conversions around........ wonder why......... Thanks, Bob 84 westy, das bus with 215,000 miles......original automatic, second engine. |
