Typical VW flat four lifter thing. Type 4's do it too. When the cam is left pressing against a lifter that has a valve pushed open, the valve spring tension eventually pushes the oil out of the reservoir in the lifter. The cure? Drive it. Be a little easy on it, as one valve isn't opening all the way. It will pump up in time, usually 15-20 minutes. If you are too bashful to drive around the neighborhood with the Hillbilly-sounding motor, rev it in the drive to about 2k or 3k for 15 minutes or so. It will eventually refill once the oil is thin enough. Bringing ideas to life, G.
