Dunno whether a clog there would make the pump whine -- if so it would be from overload and not cavitation. Dunno whether the pump could burst the filter element if it were seriously clogged.

Doubt if it is -- it would have caused trouble from the start if so.

Sorry not to be more helpful -- but you either have an input clog, an output clog, or a bad pump. You should be able to isolate which it is...any chance of ice in the system?

Ah -- faint possibility that fuel pressure regulator is jammed -- pump would be working hard, mixture might very well go rich enough to affect performance. O2 sensor will show constant > 0.5v, ought to smell rich at that point, and possibly even a glowing cat...
