Some pumps whine more than others. I would pull the feed line off that goes into the pump and make sure the gas flows freely out of that line. Keep replacing the inlet filters regularly. There may have been some junk in your new tank. Check the fuel pressure back at the engine. It can tell you if the regulator is working properly and if you have some kind of pluggage. Rev the engine and hold it for a few minutes and see if the pressure remains constant. If it starts to drop off, you have a plug somewhere. Jay

Sorry I was unlcear,

afer the new to me used pump started to whine, I replaced it whith a brand new one, which is still whining. If it is a vacuum problem, how long should I have to run the van with the fuel filler cap off? I just tried that, let it run for a minute or so and the pump was still whining, will it take longer than that?
