As far I as kow, all motors and transmissions have a unique number stamped
on them to identify the pieces, and to prevent this very thing from
happening.

In Austria the motor number is actually written in as part of the vehicle
registration!

So everybody go find that motor number and write it down somewhere in case
you need it!
