"If you state what happened, coldly and objectively, then is cannot be slander or libelous - only facts. This type of reporting will only help some other poor soul from getting taken for a lot of money. I think it is part of the capitalist system - ferreting out the good from the bad."

Alrighty, then. I had slow cranking to the point of almost not starting so thought it was probably a battery, maybe a starter problem. Took it to Contract Auto Repair here in Salt Lake. They "assessed" a low battery, charged me $100.00 to install a new one and the problem continued. Took it back. This time, upon actually inspecting, they found that the started was breaking away from the bellhousing and was "binding" when under starting load. Charged me $700.00 for a new ballhousing and replacement/install. When I went to pick up my van I noticed it was idling at 1400 and surging. Before leaving their premises I told them about it and when they inspected, noticed they left a vacuum line disconnected and fixed that. All's fine. I get out on the freeway and notice it pops out of 4th gear a FWY speeds and the cruise control doesn't work anymore, and the rear heater fan no longer turns on. Made an appointment to have these things fixed with Ron Dowdle, the owner, and he doesn't show up for over an hour, so I finally leave. I won't be going back there. They are very sloppy and don't seem to have the ability to keep it simple and just do the work and show up when they say they will. An aside as to why I didn't do some of this myself: broke my pelvis last Nov (06) and haven't been able to get around much until recently, let alone crawl under my van, which I am back to doing and usually do. I like doing it. Bob Stevens '87 Syncro Westy TIICO
