If I'm not mistaken, this happened outside a football stadium. The car was moved- it's worth a fortune because it's the only car that was hit by a meteor. You can see from the picture that it was taken through protective glass. No doubt it on display somewhere in a museum of sorts. You can see a reflection of the people gazing at it in the protective glass.

Certainly not a hoax. Well documented. Coincidentally, the pictures shown in the link given on that page were taken just about 40 miles south of where I live.
