Blowing the filter out with air is a sure way to ruin an engine. Once the oil is out of the filter it is like a bug screen rather than a filter. A friend of mine ruined an engine by using a K&N breather filter(same media as the intake filters) and not keeping it oiled, silica passed, got into the oil and then the main bearings. With 4k on the fresh engine it needed new main bearings.
