       Use the synthetic 15W50 all year round.  Used that in my '87 Westy and 
got 380,000 km on the engine when it began to have problems. This led me to 
install a Boston Bob Big Valve 2.1 engine which now has 2000 km on it so no 
synthetic yet but will switch to the synthetic when I get near the 5000 mile 
marker.
