As I have often pointed out on the list, with my converted diesel, I mount a red top in the starter battery position and the yellow (or blue) next to it behind the tail light. Neutralizes the overly thick front driver's side mass balance. I also switch the batteries with the VW relay arrangement, use an adjustable voltage regulator on the alternator to dial in the right charging voltage with the gel cells. I have a trickle charger that goes on when hooked to 110V, and a trailer four contact plug in the rear base wall near the license plate wired up to each of the two batteries in case a battery charger is needed to restore oomph. The male plug is wired to two deep/gel cell chargers. No need to pop the cover for rejuicing. Generally don't have to operate the electron font except when its raining or miserable. I also have an emergency cable for those away from the domicile embarrassing moments. Frank Grunthaner |
