It is a mechanically injected version of a TDi that they call a TDD. I believe they call it that specifically to differentiate it from the VW 1.9 TDi which is computer controlled. Overland had their Savannah Beige demonstrator so equipped with this engine in last September's SF Van-O-Rama. Unfortunately, I was too busy organizing and socializing to drive all the demonstrators. I did drive the 2.6 liter 5-cylinder also canted the same angle. On another note, I am having an older Overland 1.9TD transplanted from one Doka to another. More news on this at a later date. This is tilted in the stock Vanagon position just like my factory stock 1.6TD (in the Syncro). Besides these doublecabs and singlecabs have so much more vertical clearance in the engine compartment than the buses. No need to worry about space there. BenT |
