FYI I had some alignment problems on my '85 westy. Left front tire wearing in hill and valley, guess was toe incorrect. I took it in to be aligned and the shop found the right front tie rod [not the outer end, the inner tie rod] was bad. I replaced that and it was aligned. The turning circle going right vs left was 5 or 6 feet different. When I looked at the tie rods the right was screwed completely out and the left was completely in. After some discussion the tie rods were measured. The new one, the right was an inch shorter than the left. I don't know if this is way it normally comes or not but to align the van with about equal turning radii the steering wheel was an eighth turn off level. So it had to be recentered. Drives OK now but I still wonder about the length of the tie rods. Mike |
