I think your problem is that somebody put a Vanagon on your gear shifter. Mine does the same, shifts great in wet weather. Scratches going into reverse or ???. It can be adjusted right behind the fuel tank so it doesn't hit the stops in the selector box under the shifter. It is a two man job to get it just right.
