Hello- You haven't heard much from me lately about my engine out of embarrasment. I just could'nt face all of you with the truth that I had'nt found what ails my Vanagon engine, a 1995 2.0 Golf inline four, thae last few months. The original post last fall was about bucking and cutting out. I found that the ECU was bad. It ran better with the new ECU, but other symptoms cropped up. The engine would stall at idle, while driving, anytime anywhere. Finally, this week , it degraded to the point where it would immediately stall after starting.I could'nt drive it. My other Vanagon, a 2.1 WBX, had a coil go out a few weeks ago. Before the coil went out, it ran rough. then it wouldn't start. I put a new coil on it, and it runs fine now. (I switched them one and the other a few times just to be sure) Well, yesterday I changed the coil on my inline -4 Vanagon and the problem is gone. No cutting out or stalling. I read in the Haynes Jetta manual that stalling after starting can be caused by a bad coil.
This has been the Winter that everything fails in twos -both coils, both lawnmowers, the chainsaw and the garden tiller. It sure is nice that after 3 months of engine trouble, it's beginning to turn around. Thanks again for those who helped my out with advice. Robert Steven Keezer 1982 Westfalia IMPORTANT!!!
