Most times when I get a NEUSED Westy the first thing I write about it is; 'For Sale'. I don't think it makes much difference if the van belongs to your mother in law or your husband in law. Having multiple vans is a hobby for me that brings in a few dollars and I love stripping down standard Vanagons and taking them to the crusher. I very seldom try to drive and maintain two vans. I've been having a great time driving this Hot Rod 66 Splittie but now I'm thinking I need a clutch for it; damage caused by the Loose Nut Behind The Wheel. My 83 Westy runs and handles great for what it is. I'm getting ready to put a modified CV series engine together with 97mm bore cylinders, counter balanced crank and all balanced assemblies, stick that 290 lift cam in it along with the solid lifters. I was just waiting to get my engine test stand built to accommodate the extended tinkering required to tweak an engine. In the finality I'll probably get a set of dual carbs for it. Oh! My aching back! My current engine runs perfect and I'm actually going to do the R&R routine soon for no good reason. I'm way past "Paranoid Maintenance", I'm into "If you can't leave town to go camping, tear something up to vent your hostilities". (Find a word for that! CRAZY is already in use). God help my backyard, if I ever get this chain saw running. It would be very interesting to open up my mail program spell checker and see just how many words I've added just to accommodate the VW lists. NEUSED has just been added. Shortening it to NOPS would work for me.
