Just at the edge of Guntersville, Alabama there is a highway with long, steep grade and a wide sweeping curve in it. Right at the bottom of the grade is a right hand turn onto a side street. If a trucker were to have brake fade on that grade, both he and and the townspeople would be in big trouble.

To reduce the hazard, the highway department constructed an emergency truck stopping lane on the right side of the downhill grade. It was made of sand and soft earth all the way down the hill to slow runaway trucks. It terminated right at the edge of the side street. Right at the end and dead center of the emergency stop lane is a sign that reads:

"NO RIGHT TURN!"
