I don't know what the big confusion is all about. Temp II for 86-91 2.1l 2wd Vanagon (025906041A) has a rubber o-ring. When you buy the temp sensor from me for $9 I always include this o-ring (I checked BD site and they sell the sensor for $9.95 so I wonder how they are cheaper). I am sure that if the person on the other end of the phone line has sold more than one of these sensors he would know about this o-ring.

The only confusion I can see is if you have a 83.5-85 1.9l Vanagon or a 86-91 Syncro you use a 025906041 Temp II sensor. This uses a copper crush ring instead of the rubber o-ring. This sensor is a screw in type and it would screw into a thermostat housing that is aluminium (1.9l or syncro). The copper crush ring pn is N01381208.

Hope this clears things up.

I'm trying to resolve some confusion I've run into before I go to install my new Temp II sensor. Ken Wilford, of vanagain.com, excels at reminding customers of ancilliary parts that they will need when performing certain jobs on their Vanagons. One part that he recommends is the o-ring for the Temp II sensor. The part number is N90316802. I can't find this part in ETKA. The Bus Depot, where I purchased my sensor, based on cost, claims to not be aware of the need for this o-ring, and I quote, "As far as we know, the sensor does not take an o-ring". In the interest of helping our vendors help us better, can someone on the list help clarify this situation for me? Does the sensor require an o-ring, or some kind of seal?

As usual, thanks in advance for y'all's help (Stan, I can say this, I'm in Virginia! :^) ) Marc Perdue
