Check out the TDI Conversion Yahoo list for info on this.

Typically the folks on the TDI list say that the engines are installed at 15 and 50 degrees. The 15 degree requires the rear deck lid to be raised.

I have talked to Karl enough to know the following things: He has a 1.9 TD in his Canadian Syncro Westy right now mounted at 50 degrees. He said that he tweaked it for power so much that he only gets 20 MPG. Of course, the big tires and stuff on his roof doesn't help that.

He bought a 1.9 TDI (with something like 125 HP) from Europe to replace the 1.9 TD.

I am going to put a TDI into my 85 Westy. I am currently looking for a donor car. I am going to install at 50 degrees.

---------------------------------------------------------------- He communicadoed pretty well at BBB VII a week or two ago. I think he mentioned he's an Overland dealer so I'd guess it'd be an Overland conversion. But he also has a big horsepower other kind of diesel available to him that he might use.

He'll check in sometime on this. Maybe when he finds a place to move to.
