I had both the rubber gaskets blow out on my '85 1.9 WBX.
The engine was rebuilt about 8000 km before the right gasket blew, the left gasket went about 4000 km later.  What brand of gasket did you use on your rebuild.  The reason I ask is that I could not find any other reason for mine blowing out.
