The rotor wear limit for 86+ is 13mm. For 85-, it is 11mm.

John,
Also check the thickness of the rotors as I have experienced with the
newer
VWs (and other vehicles too no doubt), the rotors will wear out at about
the
same time as the brake pads so the whole she-bang may need to be
replaced
together.Sure many listees will say this wasn't their experience but
this is
what I have found and what VW recommend.
Minimum thickness is about 10mm (3/8") I seem to remember but I'm sure
someone else can confirm or correct me...
I didn't find this a particularly expensive exercise...I paid about
$95Aus ea
for the rotors (approx $57US) and a little less for the drums when the
time
came...
On my '92,by the time the pads finally wore out,the rotors were down to
or
near the minimum thickness so it was not worth having the disks
machined.
Also was the case with the rear drums BTW...
For the record the front pads/rotors lasted 125,000kms and the rear
shoes
& drums made about 140,000kms.
Didn't happen in the good old days of asbestos pads...;)
Anyway,my 2 cents worth...
Cheers,
