No sawsall or axe, just basic hand tools and a fair amount of experience with Vanagons including dash removals. I can see why those who charge book rate $$$ for these kinds of jobs might consider it stupid to discuss how quickly they can be done in practice. Since I don't work on cars for money it does not bother me when people hear that some jobs may not be as bad as advertised. How many hours do you normally quote to R+R the dash, George?

Of course putting it back is a slower process. The heater r+r and rebuild is another can of worms entirely. Sometimes those philips head screws that hold it to the body are rusted into place. I am not pulling the heater though, just the dash. The purpose of this is to allow the body shop better access to the painted areas up front. The front half of the stretch is brown and the back half is white. The whole thing is going to be white soon and I want the exposed brown painted areas inside to be white also.
