While living in Southern Alabama in the early '70's I was witness to a fishing technique called "telephoning".

You took one of the old box telephones (the kind where you crank it up to make a call), dropped about 6' of wire over the side of the boat, and crank 'er up... Zaps everything within 10'-15' of the boat... Not recommended for use in an aluminum/metal boat... <<G>>

Also: Extremely illegal in most states... They tend to confiscate everything; boat, truck, and gear.
