OK, here's the real deal. USE A LAPTOP with a 14"+ screen. Buy a car power adapter for the laptop, plug it in. Buy a stereo head unit with an AUX in port. Plug the laptop speaker port into the AUX in port. If needed, buy a TV card for the laptop to feed your antiquated, LARGE VCR into. When not in use, unplug the two wires, fold it up and put it away.

Removable four speaker movie theater. Very little wiring and no extra real estate. There are even more benefits to this than just a DVD player.

It is similar to my home theater. I use a $1000 PC with TV video card outputting to a $2000 computer projector. Everybody I talk to says that computer projectors are too grainy and too expensive. Then they go out to Circuit City and spend $3000 on a hi def 45" tube that they can't move and takes up half of their living room. Personally, I have seen no tubes or projection screen TVs that have as good quality as my setup. Everybody who sees my 8 foot "TV" is impressed with the image quality, and that is with DVDs and standard TV, not HDTV. When not watching the 8 foot "TV", I put the screen up to look out my 2 side windows.

OK, here is the deal. I bought this 4" screen from computergeeks. It works well but after getting I would really like something larger to use in the van on roadtrips (we have been using a 13" VCR/TV combo but it takes up a whole seat that we would like to use in our travels). I opened it up and I really think that you could use a larger screen from a laptop computer in conjunction with the controller board in this screen to make a larger screen VCR/DVD monitor out of this thing. Here is a link to a webpage where I have pictures and info on the screen I have now: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kenwilfy/ Here is a link to the computer geeks site where I bought the screen: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PCM-4 If you have any ideas on this project please let me know.
