time away from those people who have real problems or suggestions or who
want to help another Vanagoners in need. VW people have been waving to each
other now for generations and is nothing new, we did it in the 50's and
60's. The listies also have a lot of great information to >share with other
listies to help us get thru our misfortunes, trials and tribulations
Well Clarence,
I see this and several other lists I am on as a group of warm, living,
and breathing fellow travelers, on the road to Volkswagen happiness. A
family of Volksnuts sharing an ideal, not just an exchange of cold technical
information.
To call the simple wave to a fellow traveler a Stupid idea, I feel is an
insult to the spirit of the group, and too the group as a whole! I guess
some folks feel that "if in isn't their idea, then its a Stupid idea".
Where did the idea of the wave as a greeting come from in the first
place anyway? The show of the opened hand, or an "Opened handed wave", upon
meeting a fellow traveler originated as a sign to the other traveler that
you held no weapons. A sign of peace and friendship. Now I ask you, is that
a Stupid idea? I understand time has passed and road rage is the sign of
the times. But I will continue to wave when meeting my fellow Volkswagen
travelers, (and any other "make or model" friend for that matter) as a sign
of peace and kinship, in hopes of making a new connection along the way,
even if it is only in passing.
Anyway, I think your on to something with the tech book idea. Although
the information your talking about is most likely in the archives as you
say. So why not just print out those pages, and correlate them into a book?
You see your asking people to go back and type up something that is already
there for all to see.
Personally I carry a Bentley, and "wave down a friend" if I get in to
much trouble! BTW, when I wave, I always use all five fingers, well to most
folks anyway! :-)
Have a good one! Keep the spirit of the list alive! Its a great thing,
even if some people have some "Stupid Ideas"!
