To all listserve members in the Raleigh/Durham area, I know none of you have ever done such a thing (ha, ha), but this sounds like an interesting film: Thursday, February 6 7:00 pm, 104 Peabody Hall, UNC-Chapel Hill This is Nowhere (87 minutes, 2002). Each year tens of thousands of travelers steer their RVs into Wal-Mart parking lots to "camp" for a night or two. Not because they have to, but because they want to. Just as they seek out national parks and historic sites, RV travelers have marked Wal-Mart stores as travel destinations. Full of irony, "This is Nowhere" humorously captures the essence of American attitudes toward nature, equality, and civic values as it documents RV travelers' interactions with landscape, technology, communities, consumer culture, and each other.
