Thats interesting that you're using an audi part... do you have the part number handy?

I got a quote for 5-6 hundred dollars... they said well you have to run degreaser through the coolant system... run ATF repeatedly through the system...

I called the dealer, well, there, over the phone, saying 'oh you mean the oil cooler'... getting me confused, like its all the same unit... mines a 91, so maybe it is the same unit... cause when I say 'it cools the transmission' they say 'yeah'.... The part number they gave me was

087 409 061 C

with a price of 216 dollars... Bus Depot said 158 and change (159). And wait two weeks... cause they have to order it...

When you changed the ATF six times (it lasted another three years... thats good! mine has 175,000 miles currently .... isn't that more than manuals last... ) did you drive after the first couple of changes? And did you degrease the coolant system??? Someone said the oil will stick to the hoses so you have to degrease it out... and you can't drive it while degreasing ... cause it won't cool properly...
