Just go with the regular insurance, and keep all your documentation. If you
have a catastrophe, it may be a little work but you will be able to document
the true value of your vehicle.
See Dereks long post:

Also, do not go with Geico which has a terrible reputation for settlements.
State Farm is also bad, I hear, indeed any insurer that has a drive in
claims place may seem convienent, but they treat you like a number and don't
make exceptions. I would gladly pay a couple of hundred bucks more for a
company that had a reputation for more than fair settlements. Even if its a
couple of thousand less than "replacement value", you will have saved that
much in premiums in just one year.
I really like Aetna, my wife totalled our very clean Audi a few years ago,
and I did not accept their offer, and my agent had them send out a special
"adjuster" who works tough cases - he did not even work for Aetna, he was an
independent adjuster. He saw the condition of the car -perfect- and all my
reciepts for work done on the car, and I got 25% over high blue book- it was
a fair settlement. I also got 5% sales tax back, to apply to the purchase of
the replacement vehicle.
Hope this helps

Subject: [Syncro] Insurance - Replacement Value Policy?
Volks,
A recent posting on WetWesties reminded me of this issue.
What's the right way to go for insurance coverage, "Normal" Policy with
complete Documentation or a "Replacement Value" Policy with complete
Documentation and appraisals?
Sample vehicle ... 1990 Westy Syncro
1. Normal Coverage Policy:
- $500 deductible
- Rental Car Coverage
- Reasonable levels of liability, comp etc. (sorry don't have specific value
info with me)
Cost Estimates : $600-800 per year (AZ Resident)
Note:
Full Documentation Package Available.
- Receipts for all renovation, rebuild and modifications
- Photos of Everything
2. Replacement Value Policy:
I have met with a few Insurance companies about providing a "Replacement
Value" Policy.
Requirement:
- Receipts for all renovation, rebuild and modifications
- Independent Appraisals
For estimating the insurance quote I suggested they use a $30k replacement
value
Cost Estimates : $2500 - 3000 per year (AZ Resident)
Big difference in cost.
What's the right way to go?
