I've taken that journey, and it's no fun when the wife's undies fall into the 
bathtub where your engine block is soaking or if she catches you with the 
heads in the dishwasher.

Two books that I relied on - the Bentley manual and Tom Wilson's "Rebuild Your 
Aircooled VW". Even though the 1.9L that I rebuilt was water cooled, the 
principles still applied.

My biggest challenge was getting the wrist pins out of the pistons in order to 
split the case.

Hi ya'll,
My little 84' GL is going on a few hundred thousand miles and in the 
need of a new engine i think here in the next year or so.  Im wanting 
to start on a engine build.  You know....Start with the block in the 
living room of the small apartment, and have the girlfriend yelling 
at ya daily saying "Get that Damn Motor outta here!"  Anyway, I wanna 
start with the block and go from there.  Are there any good books or 
websites that have good info on this and or can you suggest that I do 
the build a different way.
