I have the chromey dog dishes on my 82, I solved the problem by gently pushing out the middle of the front hubcabs with a rag and a ball peen hammer. If you do it slowly and carefully, you'll be able to push them out enough to accomodate the dust caps, and not notice any major cosmetic difference.
