I think solid lifters are sometimes installed during rebuilds. The Type IV had solid lifters up to halfway through the '76 model year, I think. But I had a rebuilt '77 engine with solid lifters, in my '75.

The solid ones are less trouble, really. Yes, you have to adjust them, but the hydraulics don't seem to stay pumped up well in aircooled engines. Too hot, maybe.
