Larry,

I have fam in Los Osos, beautiful place. They have some really nice enviro sites at Montana de Oro State Park. It's about a miles hike to the closest sites from the parking area, near the ranger housing. There are only a handful of these sites and they go fast throughout the season. They are the furthest from any of the hiking trails (adds about 1-2 miles each way to your hike) but worth being off the beaten path. Wildlife also includes racoons (they raided our camp one night, spent an hour looking for my bear can the next morning), dear and their ticks, lots of snakes including Rattlers and the occational Puma (there are usually signs posted if one's been spotted, that is unless you are the first to spot it. Hint: don't wear brown berber sweetshirt and tan pants). Excellent hiking trails with lots of up and down and amazing vistas. Make sure to wear lots of sunscreen and jacket even if it is hot when you start, weather can change quick on the coast.
