I would suspect the 3/4 slider has cracked a bit and has worn the syncro prematurely. Most 3rd gear syncros don't wear that much as there is not the stress on the 3 or 4 shifts that there is on a 1st or 2nd. You might try some Redline oil to see if you can milk it for a while, but don't be surprised if it stays the same. Good Luck & holler if you have any questions. Daryl of AA Transaxle Duvall, WA. Hello Volks, The last few days while down shifting from 4th to 3rd gear my tranny grinds a bit. Sounds and feels like the syncro's aren't doing their job. Needless to say I imagine all sorts of things could be wrong... low on fluid...famed 3-4th gear slider problem... syncro's. Can someone tell me if they recognize the symptom? The tranny runs and shifts great in all other respects... 1-2-3-4...3-2-1. It just grinds from 4th-3rd after cruising at highway speed for a while. Gary -- Gary McEachern Reading, Ma
