John,

1/ Disconnect the battery. This is a minor nuisance but prudent. 2/ Pull the ashtray 3/ Pull the radio. 4/ Disconnect the antenna lead at the radio. 5/ Attach a light gauge line (henceforth, pull cord) to the antenna lead. Tie it securely and spiral some tape over the knot in order to taper the bulge. The pull cord can be almost any small stuff with sufficient tensile strength that you cannot break it in your bare hands and several feet longer than the antenna lead. 6/ Tie off the bitter end of the pull cord to something convenient. 7/ Outside, undo the antenna locknut, remove the base and work the toggle through the hole. 8/ Extract the antenna lead until a workable amount of the pull cord is exposed. 9/ Unfasten the pull cord from the old antenna lead and secure it to the new. 10/ You know what to do from this point.

There has been another procedure suggested. But, in what is outlined above there is no fuss, no muss and no craftsmanship of uncertainty.

George
