In our experience, both Rabbits (Deisels) of about the same vintage have been real PITA's...always a headache. I had an 81 that was crap both electrically and mechanically, and my husband had a 78 that was a bigger piece of mechanical crap. On the other hand, my 77 Rabbit gas was a great car...we called it SuperCar and got well over 350K on it before it rusted away.

If you like spending more time under the hood and want to expand your vocabulary of explicatives then this is the car for you.
