i use lava bar soap when i use hand special hand cleaning soap. a good brush for the nails and stubborn spots is indispensable. i choose the lava bar soap for several reasons. first it works faily well, second it has the least amount of packaging and most inert packaging, and its widely available on a regular basis. i stick with lava bar soap after having used a wide range of other industrial hand cleaners.

i worked for a industrial electrical contracting firm for four years, during that time i worked it almost every kind of industrial process plant you can imagine. they all had their favorite hand cleaner, so i was able to try a wide selection. many of the products are only available through industrial supply channels, which means you have to either purchase large quantities or have a contract to get the product. go-jo makes a variety of hand cleaners that i have never seen on the shelf in a store, although it appears that a couple of theindustrial tool sellers are starting to to carry them now.

the go-jo products were liquid and worked fairly well. my favorite changed in relation to what i had gotten on my hands in the plant that day. different formulations definitely work better for removing different compounds.

reguardless of hand soap i prefer to wear nitrile gloves. if you are thoughtful a couple of pair can take you through a 12 hour wrench session. if i break for lunch and the gloves aren't torn i turn them inside out to dry and wear them again after lunch.
