<P>I avoid the 4000 rpm range like the plague... I have a 2.1 and per what Boston Bob says about throwing rods and low oil pressure problems being associated with higher rpms... I play it safe, and I don't have any guages other than what the factory put in. </P>
<P>BTW if you were low on oil, would the stock oil pressure sensors warn you? I had a 71 bus and the sensor it had was very good about doing that (it had a crack in the case). <BR><BR></P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>>I think the two critical guages for a more or less
<DIV></DIV>>stock syncro are oil temp and trans temp.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>WBX owners with oil temp gauges report temps start to
<DIV></DIV>>creep up around 3900-4000 rpm. I'd like to know
<DIV></DIV>>exactly where this happens in specific situations so
<DIV></DIV>>I could back off a bit.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>This engine heat rise is not reflected in the water
<DIV></DIV>>temp gauge, and BTW syncros already have one, so why
<DIV></DIV>>add another? I don't tthe specific temp reading, just
<DIV></DIV>>relative position of the needle in varying conditions.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Heat is clearly a problem for these transmissions, so
<DIV></DIV>>you should have a way to get an idea what is normal
<DIV></DIV>>now, and then if it gets higher in a specific
<DIV></DIV>>situation, back off a bit and take it easy.
