<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV> <P>JJ-</P> <P>The safety switch is a fire hazard? Could you explain how?</P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P>The fuel pump is not ticking?&nbsp; First, check the fuel pump fuse to see if it is OK. </P> <P>It's located near the main fuse block in a long balck fuse holder with green wires. </P> <P>If the fuse is blown, a&nbsp; overheat situation may have developed and triggered the overheat switch , which shorts out the fuel pump circuit and blows the 8 amp fuse. </P> <P>The fuel pump could have failed. Check this with the heater on and a test light or voltmeter connected to the two fuel pump leads . If the light or readout works intermittently, you have a bad or sticky fuel pump. </P> <P>Fuel pumps are adjustable, and have a little filter screen that should be cleaned. </P> <P>If you find voltage at the pump leads, then tapping on the pump with a screwdriver handle or piece of wood can often unstick the pump. </P> <P>Possible causes of overheating are :blocked return air intake or failed air circulation blower.</P> <P>If your safety switch is a fire hazard you need to replace this first. I have used ones (I work on heaters)</P> <P>It's possible the safety switch is defective, when this activates , nothing will run until reset. </P> <P>E-mail me and I can send you a good safety switch . Used and inexpensive. </P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P>Robert</P> <P>1982 Westfalia</P> <P><A href="mailto:warmerwagen@hotmail.com">warmerwagen@hotmail.com</A></P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P>&nbsp;</P> <P><BR><BR>&nbsp;</P></DIV> <DIV></DIV><BR><BR><BR> <DIV>Robert </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>1982 Westfalia </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>&gt;From: ok artguy <OKARTGUY@HOTMAIL.COM> <DIV></DIV>&gt;Reply-To: ok artguy <OKARTGUY@HOTMAIL.COM> <DIV></DIV>&gt;To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM <DIV></DIV>&gt;Subject: Help! BA-6 quit! <DIV></DIV>&gt;Date: Mon, 10 Feb 2003 12:22:06 -0600 <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;The faithful BA-6 heater in my '81 Vanagon quit working yesterday. I <DIV></DIV>&gt;can <DIV></DIV>&gt;hear the swtitch relay working, and the blower motor comes on, but <DIV></DIV>&gt;the <DIV></DIV>&gt;heater never ignites. I poked around under the dash, and found the <DIV></DIV>&gt;saftey <DIV></DIV>&gt;swtich to be in deplorable (we're talking fire-hazard) condition. <DIV></DIV>&gt;I'm <DIV></DIV>&gt;assuming this is the source of my problem? Should I also replace the <DIV></DIV>&gt;flame <DIV></DIV>&gt;switch? I have the Bentley manual, but it's not a whole lot of help <DIV></DIV>&gt;here. <DIV></DIV>&gt;Also, I live in OK, and there's NO WAY my FLIAPS has parts for this <DIV></DIV>&gt;thing. <DIV></DIV>&gt;Where can can I buy a new switch? TIA- <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;JJ <DIV></DIV>&gt;'81 Vanagon Transporter <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;_________________________________________________________________ <DIV></DIV>&gt;Add photos to your messages with MSN 8.
