Hi, I am back on the list after taking about a year off. The renewed interest comes from the fact that I had to move my Vanagon from where it was stored to my house. I suddenly have the urge to make it mobile. It has been sitting since I bought it, over 3 years ago.

First attempt was a Ford 2.3 4 cyl, but that wasn't taken to completion and the conversion parts were sold off. I have a diesel tranny, so am planning on an I4 VW conversion. Current stumbling block is the fact I don't have a diesel flywheel. Sunday was spent test fitting an Audi 4000/80 flywheel. Probably the same thing as Dasher/Fox flywheel. The flywheel bolts to motor and fits inside the diesel bellhousing, but wont properly engage the starter. Actually, the starter won't even seat completely in the bellhousing hole.

So my questions are:

1) does anybody have a diesel flywheel for sale? 2) does anybody have detailed pictures of a diesel flywheel? (a side profile shot would be best) 3) anybody know if an Audi or Fox starter will work in place of the vanagon diesel unit?
