It has been a couple years since i've travelled that road, but i've done it several times by van, and once by bike...

It is beautiful. Road is under a process of de-construction, so there is a lot of gravel. You will meet with washboard and generally less than pristine conditions, but nothing a capable vanagon can't handle. Fuel is somewhat scarce - much more so in the winter than the summer (just like all the roads going into alaska). I believe there is a stretch that has no service for something like 120 miles or so, but there is a warning. Take a gas can in case, anyway. Once in the mid 90's that road shredded one of my tires (the fender scar i bear to this day), but it was a memorable trip and the scar reminds me of it.

It is my favorite part of BC... drive it and enjoy (just watch out for the crazy logging trucks). Just take your time to stop and smell the fireweed...

I was reading about the trip to Invuik that a group of you from this list undertook back in '96. If any of you, or anyone who has driven this route more recently, could give me a heads up I would really appricate. There is lots of info on people driving the road, but not much about the condition and gas stops.

Thanks!
