Why not use an electrical sender and gauge?

As usual, I am confused.

I want to add an oil pressure gauge to my syncro. Most places suggest you use the VDO-360009 sender and the sender hose extension adaptor VD0-150752.

www.busdepot.com - indicates the exension adaptor is not needed for 73-83

www.marksbugbarn.com - indicates the extension is only for type 4 engines

www.bus-boys.com/bbvdo.htm - sells a VDO-360023 sender that is mounted to the cylinder head that does not require the hose extension adaptor

www.motorworks.com and www.bowwow.ca - doesn't even list the hose extension

What have the rest of you done? Is this hose extension essential on an 86 syncro?

Thanks, Chris
