There's also a book called "The Alaska Highway" by Ron Dalby, a former editor of Alaska magazine and a former editor of mine. One of its greatest strengths, as I recall, was a detailed description of each of the lesser known approach highways.

I just checked Amazon and it's out of print but available for less than $5.

I'd also agree with John Rodgers that The Milestone is essential. That shouldn't be hard to find either.

Surprising number of past, present and future Alaskans on this list. Wish I'd had our Westy when I was there!
