Vanagon friends, Here in PA Vanagons are a very unusual thing to see. Today I found out why. I needed to take a trip up north to my camp in the woods get the mail, and check for winter damage. So off I went, at 8 am, and 13 deg. out. Not knowing how cold it was, I stopped for coffee only to find someone who was interested in Vanagons. Along with our conversation I had mentioned that I was interested in meeting a man in the area that had a few old air cold VW's, was well known, but I had never met. They new him as if he was related. So on my return trip thru the area, I headed off track, to this guys place. 2 miles later I could not believe my eyes. Even under a foot of snow you could still make out several hundered vw's. This place was a dream come true, as his yard had almost all Vw's Now don't get me wrong, I don't like to see VW's scrapped, but lately it is coming down to finding a scrap vanagon, or scrapping mine. This guy has at least 12 that I counted. 1 Syncro. 1 camper, 1 diesel still running, several of them are 2.1L engines still in the Vans. Jettas, Golfs, Foxs, He got them all, and that's why there are none in Pgh. PA!! After a good long talk with the owner, I'm lead to believe he is not very interested in selling things. He runs a Vw repair shop, and uses his yard as spare for himself. I was allowed to walk the yard, and found more single cab busses Karrman-gihas (sP) Bugs everwhere. On my parting I ask about selling hole vehicles. With some question he said he had in the past, and he would consider it. So I'll be back there in the spring to make him a few deals! I can't wait!!!
