Not with a vanagon, but on my cars, sometimes I use a squirt bottle of water on the shafts of each device while its running, and sometimes I get lucky.

WD-40 sometimes proves the culprit, but spray the device with the engine off, as it burns when it sprays up in your eyes with the motor running :-)

Don't know if its accessible in the Van.
