i think you misunderstand ... us old folks have the philosophical advantage over young folks ... in being able to more easily recognize what we can do something about, and what we can't. and gasoline is one of those things we can't change. not unless we become president or governor. and since we pretty much have to drive cars to get anywhere and do anything these days, we just accept it and go on with the rest of our lives. all the modern cities are designed (!?) for automobile transportation ... even with 'public transportation', the highways are built for massive numbers of personal autos and delivery trucks. :(

it's very much like the attitude that old men have about women ... we accept the fact that they exist; we accept the fact that no one (not even themselves) will ever understand them; we accept the fact that we cannot change them .... ever; and so we kinda just get on with living.

maybe it's pessimism or defeatism. or just being tired of beating our heads against the wall. but we've found that it's just easier and less aggrevating to pay the money (for gas or women!) and get on down the road. and if the cost goes up too much, we just have to decide where else to cut down on expenses. or, in the case of gasoline, where we need to drive the most.
