The '91 Westy I had for 3 years ran for hours at freeway speeds. In my case that was 75 at about 42-4300 rpm with 225/70R14 tires, with the auto tranny. Was getting anywhere from 17.5 to 21 mpg, depending on road grades and winds. I like the auto for convenience and as has been said, easy enough to drop down into "2" for hills, maintaining 50 mph or so. It had S&S headers, put on by PO, and I think that helped that vehicle. I miss it.
