The answer for 82 water-cooled owners may be to switch out the heater box with control cable/panel assembly as a unit. The later one has much better cable action and also seems to put out more heat. When I remove one from a later donor I leave the cables connected to the levers and box as the adjustments will remain the same this way. The cable to the valve has to be undone at the valve end. You can keep the 82 heater valve and hose arrangement as these work fine with the later box. I also remove the huge plastic duct that goes down between the front seats to the rear. This removes cleanly and only exposes like new carpeting. Use the later lower triangular duct piece from the donor.
